SEO-nergy Methodology Toolkit Edition
B2B Persona Template for SEO & AI Search
A fillable workbook that turns audience guesswork into the exact triggers, language, and intent signals your content needs to get found, by humans, Google, and AI search alike.
If your content isn’t built around how real people phrase their problems, you’re invisible in two places at once.
Job title, company size, a stock photo, a cute name, then they sit in a slide deck nobody opens. A persona built for branding is nearly useless for SEO, because it tells you your buyer’s job title and frustrations but never the words they type at two in the morning when the problem gets urgent.
Your website talks to everyone, so it convinces no one
The homepage describes what the company does instead of what the visitor came to solve. Service pages read like a capabilities list. Navigation is named the way the business is organized internally. Two pages describe the same customer in ways that quietly contradict each other.
You can feel that something is off. What you cannot do is point at the sentence that is wrong, because the problem isn’t in any one sentence. It’s that nobody wrote down who the site is for in enough detail to build from. Meanwhile the knowledge exists. Sales knows the objections. Marketing knows which campaigns landed. Delivery knows why clients stay. It just lives in three places and never gets compared.
B2B Persona Workbook for SEO and AI Search
Why This SEO Persona Template Is Different
Persona research is not pre-work for an SEO or AEO program. It is the foundation. Before you build content briefs and landing pages, you need to understand who is searching, what they want, and whether what you sell is genuinely the answer to it.
Most B2B personas are demographic trivia dressed up as strategy.
That kind of persona cannot tell you what to write, what to rank for, or why a buyer would choose you. It is a costume, not a blueprint.
This SEO persona template digs deeper: it identifies who your buyer is, what triggers their search, and the language they use to find answers. It is built to produce search scenarios: the triggers that start a search, the questions asked along the way, and the fears that quietly stall a decision.
Why this matters more now than it did three years ago
Nowadays your buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini the questions they used to type into Google. This workbook builds the SEO persona that makes you findable in both, starting from who they are and why they search.
What an SEO persona template has to capture
The Persona Workbook isn’t a fill-in-the-blank form. Every section is engineered to feed a downstream decision.
- Demographics and firmographics that sharpen your ad targeting.
- Psychographics and emotional drivers that become your headlines and CTAs, in your buyer’s own words, not generic benefit-speak.
- The full decision-making context who’s in the buying committee, what proof they need, what objections stall the deal.
- Jobs-to-Be-Done statements and search scenarios the raw material for your keyword strategy.
You do the research. The workbook holds the shape.
What you end up with
You will get a well-structured B2B persona profile grounded in consumer psychology and optimized for dual search mechanics (SEO + AI).
And a one-page Persona Overview your whole team can rally around. Marketing, sales and content working from a single source of audience truth, instead of three different guesses.
That matters most when the work leaves your hands. A copywriter, a developer or a new hire can pick this up and produce something consistent with everything else, without an hour of your time first.

Who this is for
You’re a Head of Marketing or a marketing lead at a B2B company, and you’re done building personas that look impressive and change nothing.
Or you’re an independent marketing pro, a consultant, content strategist, fractional CMO, or copywriter, who wants a rigorous, repeatable persona process instead of starting from a blank page on every project.
Either way, you’re done guessing.
Where it leads
| Is the workbook enough on its own, or do I need more? The completed SEO persona template feeds the next two steps directly. The B2B Persona Workbook is Step 1 of 3 in the SEO-nergy methodology. It feeds into the Keywords, Topics & Prompts Discovery Workbook (Step 2), which feeds the Intent-to-Roadmap Blueprint (Step 3). You can absolutely start here and add the others later. |
How to fill out an SEO persona template
Work through it in order, because each section feeds the next. Most people finish in sixty to ninety minutes across two or three sittings.
1. Pick one buyer type, the one with the highest value or the shortest path to a decision. Do not average several into a composite; that is how you end up writing for nobody.
2. Fill demographics and firmographics from your CRM rather than memory. Company size, role, and who else sits in the buying group.
3. Take psychographics from real conversations. Open your last five sales calls or support threads and lift the buyer’s own phrasing, not your summary of it. Those words become your headlines.
4. Record the decision-making context: who initiates, who influences, who controls the budget, and what proof each of them needs.
5. Capture search behavior by asking what happened immediately before your last five inquiries. Something triggered each one. That trigger is the search, and the words around it are the query.
6. Note webographics: where your buyer already spends time, which decides your channels and formats. A worked example runs alongside every section in the companion guide, so you can see a completed answer before you write your own.
What an SEO persona template should avoid
The answers are worth having here because most templates fail the same three ways.
Avoid the stock photo and the invented name. They make the document feel finished and add nothing you can act on.
Avoid demographics you will never use. Age and job title matter when they change the buying process. Otherwise they are filler.
Avoid averaging several buyer types into one composite. A persona built from the middle of three real people describes nobody, and content written for it reaches nobody.
What to build after your persona workbook
A finished persona is an input, not an output, so the question is what consumes it. This SEO persona template is Step 1 of the Strategic Website Foundation Toolkit
The workbook alone is a complete piece of work on its own.
Possible applications: your keyword and prompt research, which takes the triggers and language from Section 4 and turns them into the terms you target.
Then the content map, which decides which pages exist and what each one answers.
Alongside those, the persona feeds anything written for that buyer: campaigns, sales documents, and the brief you hand a copywriter. That is the test of whether it was worth filling in. If nothing downstream changed, the persona was decoration.
Building a full content roadmap, not just a single persona?
Consider upgrading to the Website Strategic Foundation Toolkit for SEO & AI search. This edition bundles your SEO persona template with the two critical operational steps needed to launch your strategy. It includes this workbook plus the the Keywords, Topics & Prompts Discovery Workbook (Step 2), which feeds the Intent-to-Roadmap Blueprint (Step 3) and is better value than buying the pieces separately.
Want all three plus the Intent-to-Schema Cheat Sheet? The Website Strategic Foundation Toolkit bundles the complete methodology and is better value if you are building a full strategy rather than a persona.

About Julia
Julia Gordeeva built this workbook because she kept receiving persona documents from clients that were beautifully produced and completely unusable for search.
Eighteen years in B2B search marketing, working at the intersection of consumer psychology and how people actually find things, taught her that the useful question is not who your buyer is but how they go looking. That question is what this workbook is built around.
Questions People Ask Before Buying This B2B Persona Workbook
Fair questions at this price. Straight answers, so you can decide in a minute rather than a week.
Is $59 worth it for a workbook?
Yes, if you have ever written a page and then wondered whether anyone searches for it. The workbook’s job is to stop that guessing. One page written against a real persona will outperform five written from assumption, and you will reuse this document on every piece of content you produce afterward.
Do I need SEO experience to fill it in?
You do not need SEO experience to fill it in. It is a structured set of questions about your buyer, and you already know more about them than you think. The SEO workbook template supplies the order and the framing; you supply what you have learned from selling to these people.
How long does it take?
Sixty to ninety minutes, best done across two or three sittings. It goes faster if you have talked to customers recently, and slower if you are working from assumption, which is itself useful information.
Can I use it for more than one buyer type?
Yes, complete one per buyer type. Most B2B businesses serve two to four. Label them, keep them separate while you work, and merge at the topic level later.
What do I do with it once it is done?
The completed workbook becomes the input for keyword research. If you continue with the Website Strategic Foundation Toolkit, this workbook is Step 1 of that sequence and the next workbook picks up directly from your answers.
What is a persona template?
A persona template is a structured document that captures who your buyer is, what they are trying to achieve, and what stops them. Most versions cover four things: a name and role, demographics, motivations, and frustrations
Three kinds are in common use, and it is worth knowing which one you are holding. A marketing persona describes the audience for campaigns. A UX persona describes how someone uses a product. A buyer persona describes the person who signs. All three are useful. None of them tell you what to publish, because none of them record what the person types when they go looking. That is the field every standard template leaves out.
Want someone to check your thinking?
A persona is one of those documents that feels finished until someone asks a hard question about it. If you would rather build yours with an experienced practitioner in the room, 1:1 coaching sessions cover exactly this, and the workbook becomes the working document for the session.
